This quick start guide will give you a quick walk through of how to configure your NetPresenz server. If this guide does not answer your questions please refer to the Documentation.
Note : You should read the Security Considerations section of the NetPresenz documentation.
First Steps
Step 1 : In the Finder, selet your main hard disk. Select Sharing in the File menu. Disable See Files, See Folders and Make Changes for everyone, then turn off Share this Item and its contents.
Step 2 : Create a folder somewhere on your hard disk from which you will be serving your documents (be they WWW or FTP or Gopher). Chose the folder then select Sharing from the file menu. Enable Share this item and its contents and enable See Files and See Folders for Guest users.
Showcase: To view the Showcase correctly select the Showcase directory in the description above.
Warning: Any files or folders you place in this Guest shareable folder will be accessible and visible to the outside world. Make sure you have disabled Guest access to the rest of your hard disk. Step 3 : Go to the Control Panels folder and open the Sharing Setup control panel. Click on Start if File Sharing is not currently active. Close the Sharing Setup control panel.
Step 4 : Go to the Users and Groups control panel. Double click on the Guests icon. Enable Allow Guest access. Close the the Users and Groups control panel.
Step 5: Run NetPresenz Setup Now
To run an FTP server
Step 6 : Click on FTP Setup
Step 7 : Select Read Only from the Pop Up menu for the Guests file access.
Step 8 : Make sure Remote Mounting is disabled on all users
Step 9 : Click the Save button
Step 10 : Click on FTP Users
Step 11 : Select Default from the Pop Up menu. Click the Choose button and select the directory you wish users to see when they first connect
Step 12 : Click the Save button
To run a Web server
Step 6 : Click on WWW Setup
Step 7 : Select the WWW Enabled checkbox
Step 8 : Click the Choose button and select the directory you wish users to see when they first connect (this is the directory from which the index.html file will be served when a user first connects)
Showcase: To view the Showcase correctly select the Showcase directory in the description above.
Step 9 : Click the save button
To run a Gopher Server
Step 6 : Click on Gopher Setup
Step 7 : Select the Gopher Enabled checkbox
Step 8 : Click the Edit Gopher Directory View button and create the gopher site (for more instructions see the Documentation)
Step 9 : Click the save button
Final Steps
* Click on Summary and see if there is anything else you need to do
* Run NetPresenz
* Quit NetPresenz Setup
